The sneak peek of the beach scene breaks my heart into little pieces. Peeta looks straight into Katniss’ face and his look is so passionate and full of love, but you can also tell that he’s afraid of what’s going to happen. He tries to protect Katniss from everything and wants her to win these games, even though that means he will die and never go back to district 12 ever again. But Katniss needs to get out of the arena and go back to district 12, her home, back to her family, back to Gale. Katniss stares at the locket and it’s like she slowly closes her hand around the most important persons in her life trying to protect them from everything cruel like she always does and that’s a promise she will never break. Because they need her and nobody needs Peeta. So when Peeta gives her the locket, Katniss finally realizes she also desperately needs Peeta in her life and she’s probably the only one. That’s why I love this scene so much because when they kiss after it, they don’t do it for the camera. For the first time in Catching Fire they do it for themselves and kiss because they both want it in that moment. They forget the Capitol, the viewers and everything that has happened in the past months. For a moment they only focus on themselves and their wishes and needs. And because of that Katniss feels this hunger again, her hunger for Peeta.
